Cracka Rating
Colour - Pale and bright, with great clarity.

Bouquet - Aromas of pink grapefruit, with a hint of basil, underline the freshness that this wine has in abundance.

Palate - On the palate the hallmarks of 2012 come the fore: intensity of fruit, length of flavour, and purity of varietal character. As always the style is a ripe expression of Sauvignon Blanc, reflected in the juicy midpalate texture. Bone dry and unoaked to maximize freshness.

Cellaring - Shaw + Smith has a preference for young fresh Sauvignon Blanc, best drunk within 18 months of bottling.

Service - Fresh prawn salad

Winemaker - Martin Shaw and Darryl Catlin
Pale Straw-green; has the usual laser precision of this wine, amplified by the perfect growing season and low yields; the bouquet and palate hover between grapefruit and tropical aromas and flavours, the palate with excellent persistence and length. AustraliaÕs best Sauvignon Blanc.

Detailed aromas with apple, pear, lime zest, low key cucumber and green capsicum, along with passionfruit aromatics. The palate has weight and texture with a silky glide, and green garden herbs flavours.

Confession time. I wasn't a big fan of the last two vintages of the Adelaide Hills' most famous wine, eclipsed by the Chardonnay and Shiraz of the same estate. But the brand new 2012 is nothing less than stunning, returning to the classic purity that first put this wine on the map. Its citrus profile is spot on, spiced up with fresh passionfruit which lingers long on a soft, fine, mineral finish.
