Cracka Rating
The wine is bright in magenta colour, with aromas and flavours of red-berry conserve. Spiciness and complexity have been given with 18 months American-oak maturation. The palate is full and soft in front and middle, with flavour of small berry fruit and again the oak complimenting the fruit. The finish is medium firm with tannins coming from both fruit and oak. The wine has not been cold stabilized and so may form a harmless crystalline deposit in the bottle necessitating decanting before serving. This wine has power and finesse which makes it both approachable now and worth keeping for up to 10 years in good conditions.
Best Drinking:
To 2024
Australian Wine Companion 2014 Edition
Elegant, supple and possibly slightly over-ripened. Its earthy, meaty bouquet of blueberries and dark plums, mulberries and cassis, cedar/vanilla oak and white pepper is backed by spicy scents of licorice and animal hide. It's medium in weight, with a ripe, confiture-like presence of black and blue berries knit with sweet smoky coconut/ vanilla oak and pliant, loose-knit tannins. It finishes with a lingering core of spicy flavour.
Best Drinking:
The Australian Wine Annual 2013
Full crimson-purple; an unusually long seven-day pre-fermentation soak, and two years in American oak hogsheads have shaped this well-balanced medium- to full-bodied shiraz, varietal blackberry fruit in no way intimidated by the elevage in American oak.
