Umamu is, we'll freely admit, an odd name for a winery. Very odd. This wine though is anything but odd, instead built in a style that is rather classical. Think cedary bottle aged goodness, fine tannins and a nicely resolved palate. It's quite sophisticated actually, a Margaret River red best drunk with something meaty.
This wine represents a cuvee from seven different vineyard locations. These different locations have a range in altitude from 85-130m and a range of soil types which contribute a variety of flavours to the wines. Blocks in the vineyard are harvested and vinified separately to enable us to learn more about each site.
Appearance: A medium magenta plum hue, youthful.
Nose: Minty leaf, black cherry, spicy overtones interlaced with a refined integration of oak tastiness.
Palate: Medium body and weight. Fine grain tannin, continouos front and middle with a refined finish truly reflecting the season.
75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc.
