Colour: Deep purple – and when we say deep purple we mean deep purple with a regal purple hue.
Nose: Scented blueberries, then rolling smells of blackcurrants over rhubarb, rhubarb and thrice
rhubarb smells and a little French oak cedar and clotted cream.
Palate: Direct, full and fine and precise Cabernet softness. A perfect Cabernet entry. Alert bright
fruit. No callow Cabernet middle but instead rich soft mouth filling fruit, especially cassis and
cedar. Juicy round blackberry sweetness, tempered with some taught but typical Cabernet
tannin. Wonderful cigar box and supple fruit flavour but properly taught tannin. Intense and complex
but with a lightness of red fruit flavour, which is surprising for such a full on wine.
This wine hangs about after you have tasted it for so long it seems almost self defeating, although you want another sip it is still in the mouth. Precise ‘line and length’ that lingers on and on with blackcurrant. Unctuous interesting complex but still will the fruit fullness of youth. Minutes later, the flavour still lingers. This is the eighth consecutive vintage of Zonte’s Cabernet and though it will drink great now, especially with any full flavoured meat based dishes, it will undoubtedly cellar well as previous vintages.
