2011 Daisy Rock Marlborough Pinot Gris

12 x 750ml Bottles
Cracka Review

New Zealand did it first with Sauvignon Blanc, making a style that took the world by storm with its intense, ripe fruit flavour with loads of personality. Then came Pinot Noir and now Pinot Gris.

Is the old days, Pinot Gris was a bit drab; the kind of wine that you might drink, if there was nothing else left. But not so now, with Pinot Gris the next ‘big thing, especially from the cooler areas of New Zealand, which is producing some wines with serious style. This wine from Marlborough has some of the typical pear fruit flavours and a lovely creamy texture on the palate – Marlborough does it again.

Winemaker's Note
At the heart of Daisy Rock is a passionate desire to create serious wines that are fun to share. Our stunning vineyard in the Wairau Valley is where it all begins. Located in the renowned Rapaura district, the deep deposits of glacial silt, laid down over millions of years, provide a wonderfully free-draining soil structure. The blue skies, warm days and cool nights that are essential elements of Marlborough, New Zealand allow our vines thrive.

Grown in Maven’s own Vineyards in the Golden Triangle of Raparua Road in the Wairau Valley near the Stony banks of the Wairau River. The grapes for this Pinot Gris were only hand picked once the berries had turned deep bronze in colour and the flavours almost honey like.

A generous, full-bodied yet dry style of Pinot Gris, and has pear and spiced apple aromas, notes of wild honey and stone fruit on the palate and a long rich textured finish.

Lees stirring and partial wild fermentation in seasoned French oak barriques have added another dimension to this Pinot Gris’s mouth filling palate weight and creamy texture.
