2009 Thorn-Clarke Terra Barossa Merlot
12 x 750ml Bottles
Cracka ReviewMerlot has always been the ugly child of the Barossa, the ultimate afterthought grape variety - and probably undeservedly so. When it's done well though it provides no shortage of generous, almost slutty rich fruit and a herbal plummy medium bodied style that is quite alluring. Here it's made simple, juicy and slurpable, the tannins soft, the purple juiciness turned up to 11. Lots of simple pleasure here.
Winemaker's NoteDeep red in colour. The nose has clean ripe blackcurrant fruit with nuances of liquorice, mint and chocolate oak characters. The palate is medium bodied with an abundance of rich, sweet fruit. Blueberry, raspberry and chocolate pudding fill the palate bringing depth and complexity. Very evenly balanced mouth-filling palate, with mid-weight tannins combining together to give a great length.
