1998 Xanadu Lagan Estate Reserve Cabernet Blend
Now with over 10 years in the bottle and this is looking absolutely resolved, with cedary cool climate cassis fruit melding in with some meaty secondary complexity to make for a rather enjoyable lamb rack sort of wine.
Selling for a fraction of it's original RRP, this wine is a good example of why we cellar wine in the first place. A special occasion wine for an everyday drinking price.
Xanadu's founders, The Lagan Family, planted their original estate vines in 1977. The fruit for the Lagan range (which is only released in the very best vintages) is sourced exclusively from these original planting now over 30 years old. This particular wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Cabernet Franc (20%) and Merlot (15%) and matured for 20 months in a selection of French barriques before being bottled unfiltered.
