2011 Daisy Rock Marlborough Pinot Gris

RRP: $23.00
3 x 750ml Bottles
Cracka Review

New Zealand did it first with Sauvignon Blanc, making a style that took the world by storm with its intense, ripe fruit flavour with loads of personality. Then came Pinot Noir and now Pinot Gris.

Is the old days, Pinot Gris was a bit drab; the kind of wine that you might drink, if there was nothing else left. But not so now, with Pinot Gris the next ‘big thing, especially from the cooler areas of New Zealand, which is producing some wines with serious style. This wine from Marlborough has some of the typical pear fruit flavours and a lovely creamy texture on the palate – Marlborough does it again.

Winemaker's Note
At the heart of Daisy Rock is a passionate desire to create serious wines that are fun to share. Our stunning vineyard in the Wairau Valley is where it all begins. Located in the renowned Rapaura district, the deep deposits of glacial silt, laid down over millions of years, provide a wonderfully free-draining soil structure. The blue skies, warm days and cool nights that are essential elements of Marlborough, New Zealand allow our vines thrive.

Grown in Maven’s own Vineyards in the Golden Triangle of Raparua Road in the Wairau Valley near the Stony banks of the Wairau River. The grapes for this Pinot Gris were only hand picked once the berries had turned deep bronze in colour and the flavours almost honey like.

A generous, full-bodied yet dry style of Pinot Gris, and has pear and spiced apple aromas, notes of wild honey and stone fruit on the palate and a long rich textured finish.

Lees stirring and partial wild fermentation in seasoned French oak barriques have added another dimension to this Pinot Gris’s mouth filling palate weight and creamy texture.

2008 Maven Marlborough Chardonnay

RRP: $26.00

Cracka Review
It's amazing what a little bottle age will do for a wine, in this case turning a rich wine into something even richer, more decadent and - dare I say it - a little sexier too. Probably not the sort of tipple for those who strictly drink Sauvignon Blanc but no questioning the Chardonnay goodness here.

Winemaker's Note
The golden-hued berries for this Chardonnay were selected from a range of premium sites in Marlborough's renowned Wairau Valley and in the hills of the adjacent Omaka Valley. By cool fermenting a portion of the wine in stainless steel we've allowed the true character of the fruit to shine through then balanced this with a richly textured barrel component to add further depth and complexity. This is a fresh and fruity style of Chardonnay with lovely peach and nectarine aromas and a soft, creamy texture balanced with fresh citrus notes and a long finish.

2008 Maven Marlborough Pinot Noir

RRP: $36.00
3 x 750ml Bottles
Cracka Review
'The fundamental principle of winemaking for this Pinot Noir is gentle fruit handling' (A quote from the Maven winemakers). Sounds nice doesn't it? Makes you think about velvet gloves and grapes on pillows (or maybe that is just us). Anyways, the net result is a positively juicy Pinot Noir, one with lovely sappy fruit and plenty of flesh (in the quite classic Marlborough mould).

Deep ruby in colour, this premium exhibits rich spicy and savoury aromas with subtle toasty notes from French barrique maturation balanced with dark cherry fruit and soft ripe tannins.

Cracka Review
Don't you just hate those kiwis when they keep turning out juice like this. Fun filled, fruit driven, lovely fresh acidity; wines that just make you think of Summer. From a well-known name comes this little gem that ticks every box. Typical but classy Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with vibrant and intense tropical fruit flavour finishing fresh and lively. The kind of wine that puts Marlborough at the top of the world's Sauvignon Blanc map.
