  • Orange shines like a beacon as a region for cool climate wines and one of the kings of cool is winemaker Peter Logan. The Logan name has become synonymous with turning out wines that are imbued with subtlety and finesse, influenced by the old world, yet tasting of the new. This has immense character with complex pepper, plum and berries. The palate is a fine combination of savoury fruit and detailed spice that ensures it’s an ideal wine with chargrilled steak.

  • The lovely Apple Tree Flat Shiraz is a lovely crimson red colour. The perfumed aroma shows characters of red berries and fresh earth with a floral lift. The fleshy palate has bright flavours of mixed berries, plums and spice.
  • Rob Geddes MW (2011 Vintage) says:

Tasted twice. Raspberry cranberry aromas and the same fruit in the mouth, medium bodied with the pretty fruit of region finishes black peppery fruit and black tea tannins.

    James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says:

Light to medium crimson-purple; a medium-bodied wine with cherry, plum, spice and oak all contributing to the bouquet and palate, the tannins fine and ripe. Drink while it retains its freshness.

    Campbell Mattinson (2009 Vintage) says:

This shiraz from Logan is a pretty tidy wine. It sits nicely between the toowarm and beefy style - and the too-cool and herbal style. It’s flush with cherry-plum flavour though it’s made more complex by notes of sweet compost and pepper. Satisfying finish. Gamey aftertaste. Interesting and juicy. Like it.

    James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says:

Good hue, although not entirely clear; a complex bouquet of licorice, star anise, game and black fruits is followed by a medium- to full-bodied palate that has a near-identical range of flavours plus a savoury undertone.

Rob Geddes MW (2009 Vintage) says:

These wines have generosity in their fragrant spice and blackberry aromas. The palate is full bodied fresh ripe and the plush tannins are smooth. The style is getting fresher and make more use of natural acidity which made the 09 great with food.

    James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says:

Good purple -crimson hue; a medium-bodied wine with immediately attractive mouthfeel to its softly textured array of cherry, plum, spice and mocha flavours.

    Nick Stock (2007 Vintage) says:

This has a bright fragrance and a really juicy, dark, sweet berry nose - a ripe shiraz grown in a cool climate with toasty oak fragrance scattered across the top. The palate is supple and silky and, notwithstanding the 15% alcohol, it manages to remain in medium-to-full territory with a lozenge of blackcurrant and plum flavour and loose-knit, easy tannins.

    James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says:

Despite its high alcohol, has the lively, spicy fruit on the mid-palate for which Orange is becoming so well known. Nonetheless, might have been even better if picked earlier.

    Nick Stock (2006 Vintage) says:

This is a well-stitched, smoothly fruited shiraz, showing really ripe dark fruits and a touch of tarry reduction, some fine sweeter spice lift too. Tannins are soft and easy, delivering plums and peppery flavour, toasty oak through the finish. A modern missionary-position style.

    James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says:

Medium-bodied; fresh and well-balanced, with good line and flow to the black and red cherry fruit, plus touches of spice and licorice; fine tannins to close.

Medium-bodied; distinctly savoury, spicy notes to both fruit and tannins; a mix of mulberry, raspberry and blackberry fruit.

    Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005

    James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says:

Light to medium red-purple; there are clean, spicy, cool-climate edges to fine black fruits on the bouquet; the light to medium-bodied palate has some sweet black fruits in the middle, surrounded by lighter, more savoury nuances.

    Australian Wine Companion 2004 2003

    James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says:

Medium to full purple-red; earthy, ripe and rich fruit aromas are surrounded by strong American oak. The amazingly rich, ripe, sweet and luscious palate is enhanced by cinnamon/clove/smoky oak
