      • The stripe range from Houghton has been a reliable favourite with Aussies for years. Many a gen X and Y probably popped their wine cherry with Houghton, and it still continues to be a 'go to' wine at a value price. Vibrant in colour, aromas of red berried, cherry and plummy fruits lift from the glass, along with a hint of minty freshness and red pepper. The palate is supple, soft and juicy with a raspberry centre, fine tannins, and a lick of spice on the finish. It's a value plus wine that is made for sharing.

      • Brilliant and bright garnet in colour with a ruby red hue, the wine displays intense aromas of raspberry, cherry and plum fruit complemented by black olive and hints of tomato leaf, mint and red capsicum. The juicy palate is full of vibrant raspberry, blueberry and cherry fruits combined with chocolate, cinnamon and clove spice. The tannin structure is soft and supple providing an excellent example of Western Australian cabernet.

      • James Halliday says:

Great value, on a par with that of Houghton Margaret River Cabernet of the same vintage, the latter a better wine, but naturally more expensive; here fragrant and breezy cassis is woven through with fine tannins on the light- to medium-bodied palate, and a touch of oak also appears. Great early drinking 'luncheon claret'.

        Tyson Stelzer says:

Varietal credentials are on full parade in this value-for-money lunchtime cabernet. Flavours of crunchy blackcurrants and violet perfume carry long through a refreshingly medium-bodied palate of tangy acidity and fine-boned tannins.

        James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says:

Varietal cassis, redcurrant and dried leaf bouquet; fleshy, precise and focused, this wine delivers a knockout punch of flavour for this price.

        Australian Wine Companion 2011 2010

        James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says:

Bright colour; vibrant cassis fruit, cedar and an attractive floral note; accessible, but also quite tightly wound, with real poise and power for such an inexpensive wine; bargain.

        Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009

        Ray Jordan (2006 Vintage) says:

A tight and slightly angular wine that maintains a stylish elegance with firmish fruit and fine sinewy tannins. Designed as a quality value-for-money wine.

        Ray Jordan's 2009 WA Wine Guide 2009

        James Halliday (1996 Vintage) says:

Medium purple-red; the moderately intense bouquet offers nicely ripened fruit and soft oak. The palate has good feel and balance, with cassis/berry fruit supported by good acidity and gentle tannin.
