        Palate: On the palate it is a very well-balanced wine with ripe black fruit characters, coffee and chocolate interweaving harmoniously. There is an understated power to the wine, with layers of complexity building across the palate and then finishing elegantly with long, fine tannins. Initially quite jammy, it offers a slightly porty presence of juicy cassis, and dark plums, but then thins out, becoming more metallic and currant-like down the palate, losing fruit sweetness.

        Taylors is an outstanding winery, but more often than not its top guns underperform. This does its best to reverse that trend: what a mellow mouthful of rich red wine. It's right in the groove: full of currants and leather, mint and beef stock, its chocolatey oak totally consumed by the wine's intense fruit flavours. There are notes of dried herbs and stewed vegetables, too, but they just make it taste more interesting. It's also finely structured. If you're looking for a mellow, super-premium cabernet, this would be a sound option.
