2006 Champagne Gosset Grand Millesime Brut

Winemaker's Notes

“The year was particularly favourable to Pinot Noir which shows here a good maturity, with a lot of fruit and body”. - Jean-Pierre Mareigner, Cellar Master

Blend: Chardonnay 44%; Pinot Noir 56%

In The Glass: The colour is a bright and clear yellow gold.

On The Nose: The first nose is very fresh and expressive with notes of hawthorn, lilac, wild white flowers and fruit notes such as pear, plum and Mirabelle.

On The Palate: The palate is straightforward with light notes of violet. Citrus fruits aromas dominate in this cuvée: lemon drops and grapefruit aromas sustained by fruit aromas (pear, plum) thus confirming the nose. In the mouth, we can find aromas of citrus caviar and grapefruit. The finish has a long lasting, refreshing note with a hint of saltiness, and ends with notes of lemon.

To Pair With: It will pair perfectly with fish, like sea bass baked in a salt crust, scallops but also with salt‐marsh lamb or fresh goat cheese.

Serve: 8°C

Cellar: Up to 6 years.

Vinification: To preserve the natural fruitiness of the wines, malo-lactic fermentation is carefully avoided.

Expert Reviews

Mike Bennie (2006 Vintage) says
Very buttery scents, toasty notes, ripe stone fruit, very rich bouquet with dashes of lively ginger spice. Creamy textured, broad and bold in the palate, bubbles are mousse-like and tangy at once. Finishes perkier than expected with acidity lively and closing the wine with chalky impact. It’s a statement Champagne, outside convention but interesting and delicious. Asks for food alongside.

Wine Advocate (2006 Vintage) says
From an excellent vintage, especially for Pinot Noir, Gosset's golden-yellow 2006 Grand Millésime Brut (which blends 56% Pinot Noir with 44% Chardonnay and was disgorged after eight years on the lees) displays a deep, rich and fresh, very mineral bouquet. This is followed by a full-bodied, very complex and persistent palate with purity, finesse and great expression. This is a mouthful of a straightforward, well-structured and refreshing Millésime with a long and pure, salty and stringent finish. This 2006 combines richness with purity, elegance with complexity, and finesse with a serious expression and length. A great Champagne indeed.

Wine Enthusiast (2006 Vintage) says
This is a dry style of wine, with great acidity and a tightly wrought texture. As with many Gosset Champagnes, this wine has had no malolactic fermentation, enhancing the freshness and crispness as well as the structure. Full of lemon zest, crisp grapefruit and delicious acidity, it will still age for many years. Drink from 2017.
