2006 Griffin Wines Adelaide Hills Merlot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Medium-bodied, with a deep, dark hue. Juicy from start to finish, with just the right amount of French oak. Think sweet blackberries, cherry and spice, wrapped in silk. A fine example of just how drinkable Adelaide Merlot can be.

Winemaker's Notes

Handpicked and fermented in small open vat fermenters, then gently basket-pressed and matured in French oak. Deep in colour with excellent dark cherry and ripe blackberry flavours with a hint of warm spice and a silken finish.

The 2006 harvest finished with the Shiraz in late April. It was a good year with the crop of Sauvignon Blanc, in particular, being of excellent quality. Our winemakers all say that the quality of our grapes will make for great wine, with good fruit flavour ripeness and reasonable baume levels. The 2006 Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Merlot are testament to those assessments There are some interesting projects that have already proved successful, like our Merlot Rose`, and using French Oak from various regions for the Pinot Noir.

Medium-bodied; olive, earth and spice varietal characters sit adjacent to ripe blackcurrant fruit; good balance and length.
