2009 Barros Port Late Bottled Vintage Port

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

After spending a couple of years in barrel, this late bottled port has burst onto the scene at a great price. Hailing from the home of port, it shows some bright, ripe black fruits amongst the Christmas cake aromas, and on the palate it is very rich and sumptuous with some solid tannins, bright acidity, and a dry, savoury-edged finish. It would be excellent with a slice of choccy cake.

Winemaker's Notes

The wine should be stored in a dry and dark place, without temperature variations, and should remain up-right. As a natural product, the Port Wine is subject to create deposit when ageing. Once opened, it should be consumed within 2 to 4 months. The periods here suggested are merely for guidance, not implying the deterioration of the wine but only a slow evolution that can lead to the loss of its original sensorial characteristics.

Appearance: Lively ruby colour.

Nose: Attractive fresh aromas of dark fruit and cherry, with touches of spices.

Palate: The taste shows wild fruit, wonderfully seductive and engaging. The firm tannins are well balanced by the strength of the fruit. Intense and concentrated wine, with a remarkable structure. Overwhelming and persistent finish.

Food: Balancing the intensity of flavours, the LBV is the ideal choice to serve with main courses of meat, like filet mignon encrusted four peppers and veal cutlet with Bérnaise sauce. Alternatively perfect pear and chocolate mille-feuille or simply to enjoy with cheeses of medium intensity.
