Cracka Review

Yo, yo, yo! Here's a top shelf Champagne that has captivated a wide range of fans. Everyone from royalty to blinged up rappers has been seen drinking this, even Posh and Becks are big fans of Cristal, so why not put this celebrity Champagne in your fridge for a special occasion. It's powerful, opulent and graceful with white stone fruits, apples, orange and white florals decorating the nose, along with licks of buttery pastries. The palate is full-bodied and dry with those stone fruits and butter flavours coming through, together with fine mousse, a tight, citrusy acid backbone and dry, fruity finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Louis Roederer Cristal Champagne is the epitome of class and elegance from the house of Roederer.

On the nose:It releases notes of citrus compote and candied apricots and evokes the sweetness of honeysuckle. When aerated, notes of vanilla-edged cocoa bean emerge, with toasted hazelnut, hints of liquorice and even a touch of cinnamon.

On the palate:The palate is structured, energetic and sculpted. An initial dense, ripe and silky sensation is amplified by the discovery of a chalky, cherry freshness, a powdered, almost mentholated brightness. The feeling is delicate and ethereal, a succession of delicious and colourful textures perfectly integrated within the lightness and finesse of the wine... an invitation on a journey of discovery. The bright personality of Cristal then appears, simultaneously pure and sharp, in a finish focused once again on chalk, energy and grain. In this Cristal 2009 there is a genuine force of life, an invitation to pleasure, and at the same time great depth and crystalline purity.

expert reviews about

2009 Champagne Louis Roederer Cristal

Expert Reviews

Vinous - Antonio Galloni says
The radiance and richness the 2009 showed just a few months ago is not all evident. Instead, the 2009 comes across as tightly wound and in need of considerable cellaring. I expect it will drink well for a period measured in decades rather than years. The 2009 has always been quite exuberant, but for now, it looks the wine is going to need a bit of time before it is at its best. Readers should note that Roederer has decided to release the 2009 ahead of the 2008.
2021 - 2049
Huon Hooke says
Roederer has released the '09 before the '08 as it is an open, warm-year wine while '08 is a slow-ageing long-termer. Hints of mushroom and earth on the nose, which is a trifle closed and shy. The palate is very impressive: tremendous power, terrific acidity, incredibly length. "Invisible concentration"; "weightless density" were phrases tossed about. The power and impact of the wine are undeniable. The aromas and flavours are restrained and subtle, refined and tightly coiled. As usual, I have the feeling that the wine is released a bit young and will be worth waiting at least another year for.
2018 - 2025
James Suckling says
A very rich and full-bodied Cristal that harks back to 2006 or 1989 in style. It's round and rich, which underlies the ripeness of the vintage. Lots of dried-apple and pineapple character with bread dough and flan flavours. The bubbles are so fine you almost don't notice them. Very vinous style. Drink now.
Wine Enthusiast says
The latest incarnation of this famous Champagne now comes from Roederer's own vineyards, a good portion of which are run on biodynamic lines. This still-young wine has great depth and richness, a beautiful balance between ripe fruit and crisp texture that make it alive, crisp and bright. As it matures, it will deepen and become even more intense. Drink now if you must, but preferably wait until 2019.
