2009 Galli Estate Artigiano Heathcote Sangiovese

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

This shows how Heathcote has adopted the Italian grape Sangiovese with open arms and its suitability for producing fruit that lends wines a savoury edge. This wine shows forest fruits, dark chocolate and vanilla all combining to present a wine that will pair brilliantly with a bowl of spaghetti.

Winemaker's Notes

A savoury food friendly wine full of juicy sour cherry fruit. This wine is full of lifted dark cherry and spice on the nose. It is a supple, silky wine that is dense, savoury, and very refined.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Light, bright red; fragrant, spicy cherry aromas flow into a most attractive palate with first class varietal character, both in terms of flavour and structure, fine tannins woven through the savoury cherry fruit.

Campbell Mattinson (2009 Vintage) says
It’s very light in colour – it’s a mild, see-though red – but it packs a punch when you take a mouthful of it. It boasts a big web of tannin and a fair amount of acid, but it’s jubey and licoricey and flashed with dried herbs too. You’d call it both sweet and savoury. And it smells perfumed and inviting too. Indeed it’s Nebbiolo-like in its light-but-tannic-but powerful personality. I very much enjoyed drinking it.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Very light colour, but the hue is good, as is the purity of the varietal expression, its bright red cherry flavours nipped by a nice touch of spicy/savoury tannins; good balance of fruit, oak and tannins.
