2009 Madeleines McLaren Vale Old Vine Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The 2009 Madeleines McLaren Vale Old Vine Shiraz is from a single old-vine McLaren Vale vineyard with an absolutely top draw winemaker that picked up a 94 from Halliday and a 92 from Tony Keys.

This wine is all about bang for your buck. If I'm opening a bottle of wine, no matter what it costs, I want it to be good. With deep colour, rich fruit and solid structure, this absolutely smashes its price range. It's a lot of wine for a very small price tag.

Winemaker's Notes

Deep red, brick brown hues. Jammy, rich old vine fruit, herbal and mint aromas. Concentrated and developing bottle age characters on the palate, full body with rich ripe tannins.

Alc/vol: 15.0%

2009 Madeleines McLaren Vale Old Vine Shiraz

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Said to be made from the oldest vines in the Willunga area of McLaren Vale. Deeply coloured and full-bodied, it has sumptuous black fruits, lots of dark chocolate and perfectly pitched, ripe tannins. In this ocean of plenty, the alcohol is irrelevant.

Tony Keys (2009 Vintage) says
Clean on the nose with a hint of something I couldn't pin as I switch between spice and herb, no matter it's good. Powerful in the mouth makes an instant impression on entry, it is high in alcohol at 15% but it carries it well. It's a big full expression of McLaren Vale Shiraz and should find a ready market.
