2010 Madeleines Nangkita Single Vineyard Fleurieu Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The 2010 Madeleines Nangkita Single Vineyard Fleurieu Shiraz could be the best value wine of 2017. Not only does this have 94 points, it also come from a mature vineyard and a great vintage (2010).

The source for this bargain is the Madeleines winery's Nangkita vineyard, which sits up near Mt Compass on the Fleurieu Peninsula (in between McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek). Madeleines source (or did source) from McLaren Vale and other spots on the Fleurieu, but this comes from the cooler home vineyard at 160m above sea level. Not that you'd know this comes from a cooler spot, as it is a mammoth wine. The 2010 vintage was famously warm, and this is a very dense and powerful Shiraz with huuuuggggeee flavours. Heroic wine, even as a seven-year-old.

The critics are all over this red too, with Tony Keys giving it 94 points and praising the 'gorgeous nose with hints of quality dark chocolate shot through with spice, on entry it sits pert before leaping off into a tumbling joyous ride across the palate' calling it a 'delightful wine'.

This is ultimately a seriously massive wine that will - sadly - be one of the last released by the winery.

Winemaker's Notes

Low yields, rich elegant fruit, great wine.

Since 2005, the Nangkita Single Vineyard Shiraz has emerged as a leading cool climate Shiraz and has been awarded many gold medals and trophies.

The 2010 Nangkita Shiraz is made from estate grown cool climate grapes from the Nangkita Hills, Fleurieu Penninsula, South Australia.

Deep red, brick brown hues. Fresh Shiraz varietal aromas, mint and chocolate. Rich full palate, silky tannins, lingering blackcurrant fruit, with well-balanced oak.

Alc/vol: 14.2%
