This medium to fuller-bodied shiraz is good to go tonight with some lamb shanks, however, it will kick on for a couple more years in the cellar. It's more savoury than fruity in a Eurocentric way, with appealing smells of black pepper, dried herbs, some violet florals and preserved plums and black fruits on the nose, with hints of sandalwood. The palate is elegant and a little talcy in its texture, with pepper spice flavours, licks of meaty savouriness, mellowing tannins, and a long, spice and savoury finish.
The grapes for this wine grow in the highest section of the Sea Eagle vineyard in Finniss River. Alttus is exclusively produced in best years, and only released after a longer ripening period in the bottle.
