Winemaker's Notes

“I am a traditional wine producer. My aim is to express in my wines the full gusto della mia terra – to convey as purely and directly as possible the tastes and flavours of my land. I do this by tending my grapes as carefully as I can, for they are the vehicle by which I am able to achieve this expression.
"Il mio Barolo” For me, Barolo is not just a wine. It is part of my culture and my identity – it defines who I am and where I come from. When I drink Barolo, I remember my grandfather. Indeed, Barolo seems to contain within it something of the spirit of the true man of Le Langhe. It has the same enduring forza – strength, dignità – dignity, and a character that is at once immensely hard, austere and honest.
Little by little, you will come to fall in love with Barolo, to become infatuated with it, and to understand and appreciate the special hardness and austerity and honesty that comes from the land in which it is born, my land: Le Langhe.
This is my Barolo. This is what I am trying to achieve. I invite you to open a bottle and discover it for yourself."
- Mario Fontana

Grape Variety: 100% Nebbiolo.

Vinification: Fermentation in stainless steel for 20-25 (sometimes as much as 40) days, followed by ageing in stainless steel for up to 8 months and maturation in 25hl Slavonian oak barrels for 2 years, followed by assembly and further ageing in stainless steel for 1 year, and ageing in bottle for at least 1 year before release.

Bouquet: Rich fragrances of roses, liquorice, spices.

Taste: Complex, harmonious and concentrated, the Barolo shows a certain austerity and finesse plus the extract and tannin for considerable ageing. The depth of flavours is profound from liquorice and tar to spice and withered roses, and notes of truffle. Superb length.
