While it was actually Geoff Merrill who did the heavy lifting with this Cabernet, both Bob Willis and Ian Botham were involved in the blending, helping put together the wines after (no doubt) a few wines. They've done a damn fine job too, crafting a powerful and full-flavoured South Australian red with hearty flavours aplenty. Matured for a massive 28 months in oak, this hearty red has no shortage of anything - and now in the perfect drinking zone too!
Winemakers Notes: This Cabernet Sauvignon has a wonderfully expressive varietal aroma while the blend of McLaren Vale and Coonawarra highlights the best aromas and flavours that Cabernet has to offer - peppermint, violets, chocolate, leather, black olive and menthol with oak influenced toasty vanilla. It is medium bodied with a generous mouth feel and a long finish.
Vintage Information: The 2011 vintage was one many would probably like to forget. During the crucial time for grape growing in McLaren Vale (January to March), we experienced double the average rainfall (55.5mm) with falls for the three months totalling 116.4mm. The lead up to the vintage was actually very good. Soaking rains in winter and into spring and mild temperatures in early summer meant a nice slow accumulation of flavours which we managed to capture in the majority of the fruit we took in.
