2011 Poggiotondo Chianti Riserva DOCG
If it’s got the words Riserva on the label you can bet it’s the most fancy bottle of the Estate, just like a reserve range here, it probably means it’s made with the best fruit or is made using hand crafted techniques. This wine from Poggiotondo fuses Sangiovese with the calming and generous influence of Merlot to create a seductively savoury red. It’s got a palate of ripe red fruit, tar and spice with mouth-coating tannins and a long finish; all you need is a block of mature Reggiano and you’ll be in heaven.
A blend of the top Sangiovese and Merlot parcels. Native yeast ferment in oak and concrete vessels, gentle punch downs, extended maceration and generous ageing in French oak. Ripe red fruits, earthiness and tar wrapped in fine tannins with a complex, savoury finish.
