2011 Thelema Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Value Rating

Cracka Review

It’s rare to see a South African wine on these shores but apart from playing bloody good Rugby, the South Africans are also pretty handy at making wine. This comes from Stellenbosch, one of the prettiest wine regions in SA where constant sunshine and cool nights have imparted some magic in to this Cabernet. Like watching the Springboks do a set piece, this is complex and stylish yet not as bruising as being in a scrum with John Smit. Bags of character here and it finishes long and firm like a full-time drop goal and is just as winning.

Winemaker's Notes

Complex and stylish, with aromas of ripe blackcurrant, dark chocolate and pencil shavings. This wine is bone dry, yet exhibits a lovely sweet fruit character on the palate, with a lovely long finish.

Maturation: Already drinking well, and will develop for 8 years.

Food Pairing: A perfect accompaniment to grilled beef, especially with a Béarnaise sauce and rocket salad.

Alc/vol: 14.72%

Wine Spectator (2011 Vintage) says
Mature and suave, with warm espresso and singed tobacco notes peeling out from the core of lightly mulled currant and blackberry fruit. Lingering black tea and charcoal accents score the finish. Still has legs.
