If you thought Tim Adam’s Estate Riesling was smart, just wait til you try the Reserve because this is as pure an expression of Clare Valley Riesling as you could hope to find. It’s perfumed with vivid lime, lemon and grapefruit with the acidity in excellent balance. It’s the classic style that has benefitted from a few extra years in the cellar and, if you wanted to go a few more years, you’ll still find it’s fresh with a lemon acid core and honeyed characters.

Winemaker's Notes

Description: The use of only the very best 500 litres per tonne of grapes has resulted in this wine being very intensely flavoured and aromatic. The wine has well lifted Riesling character with citrus aromatics of lime, lemon and grapefruit. The palate is seamless with moderate viscosity and an extreme acid finish. Rieslings from the Clare Valley are most enjoyable when young and zesty, or left to mature beyond five years of age. We have allowed five years of bottle ageing before releasing this wine, which has consequently developed the added complexity of toasty honey and blossom characters. For the first time, this wine has been sealed with a WAK cap closure; an internally threaded screw cap, providing technology with a traditional appearance and ensuring that this wine will cellar for 20 years in good conditions.

Winemaking Notes: 100% free run juice from our most premium Clare Valley Riesling vineyards.

Growing Conditions: A good wet year leading up to the vintage of 2010, with most vineyards reaching saturation. The then well-watered vines had a long warm spell in November, right at the flowering season. This then meant that we had reduced yields across most varieties, whilst still getting the rainfall they needed. The result, another great year of focused fruit flavours and firm acidity perfect for the cellar.

Food Pairing: Enjoy as an aperitif or with any seafood. Best with oysters fresh from the sea!

Talk about drinking at its peak. This is in a great drinking place. The aromas are just wonderful. Lime leaf, spice and pure lime essence, all of which follows faithfully onto the palate. There are grapefruit flavours here too; this is a white wine of intensity, character and bite. It carries a green tinge and beautiful length; it has many years ahead of it but it’s hard to go past it right now. Everything where you would want/hope it to be.

A subdued, almost steely, mineral water and grapefruit nose with the barest faint hint of toast. The palate is explosively acidic, a wild ride of super grapefruit acid, the intensity of the finish exceptionally long and powerful. This is an acid giant of a wine, perhaps not ready now, but with a length that is simply amazing

From the Jenner Vineyard, only free-run juice (500L per tonne) used, traditional vinification with neutral yeast, cool fermentation and early to bottle. Still in its primary phase, fresh and vibrant, still pale in colour; that said, it has intensity and prodigious length. There can be no question about its future, with some honey just peeping around the corner, toast still far away. Irresistible, especially at this price.

Released as a five-year-old. I find most “museum releases” of Australian Riesling quite disappointing, on the whole, which I understand is not part of the accepted or common wisdom. This wine though justifies the (reserve) tag and the (hold back from release) treatment. It’s alive with scent, feels textural and (relatively) rich, and has a tonne of sizzle though the finish.

Exemplary, perfectly balanced Australian Riesling in a leaner, finer style that remains simply packed with pure, pristine fruit. Heady and floral, it’s scented with pear, apple and lime juice aromas backed by nuances of blue and white flowers and a developing hint of toastiness. Long and focused, its crystal-clear citrus and apple flavour are coated with dusty phenolics and wrapped in a racy, brittle acidity.
