Cracka Review

Two trophies and every bit as good as the accolades suggest this is a masterful Chardonnay with layer after layer of fruit flavour from citrus and white peach to alluring toasted almond and even a touch of charcuterie.

Bright, young and juicy with a superb line of acidity this is a great Australian Chardonnay - make no mistake!

Winemaker's Notes

The 2011-12 growing season saw relatively cool growing conditions with timely rainfall. This allowed Chardonnay fruit to be harvested in optimal condition once physiological ripeness was achieved.

Appearance: Light straw with a green edge.

Nose: White flowers, hazelnut, minerals with fine citrus aromatics.

Palate: Gentle textured palate, slightly savoury, good drying phenolics, hints of nuts, nervy, good drive and length.

Food: Grilled John Dory.

Cellaring: Realistically needs three years to really show its pedigree and will continue to develop complexity and interest for up eight to ten years in a good cellar.

Alcohol: 12.5%

Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2012 Vintage) says
Introducing the new era of De Bortoli Reserve, in which the name of the plot rightfully takes the limelight. The old vines of this block deliver intensity and power with undeviating focus and restraint.
- Tyson Stelzer, Wine Business Magazine, Jan 2014.
James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
A model of restraint, in terms of both its fruit and oak expression; white peach, melon and fig are circumscribed by citrussy acidity, French oak whispering from the wings of the stage.

James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2015, Aug 2014.
