cracka review

None of us here at Cracka can afford the $1000/bottle asking price for Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Chateau Pavie. But that's why we love aged beauties like this Esprit de Pavie. Sourced from vineyards surrounding Chateau Pavie and made by the same winemaking team, it's a little Bordeaux bargain!

winemaker's notes

Viticulture: The vines are worked with a minimum of chemical treatments. Green harvests are made, and a first leaf thinning on the eastern side of the vines at the end of June is followed by a second thinning on the vines’ western side towards mid-August.

Vinification: Alcoholic fermentation begins naturally in temperature controlled tanks. After several weeks of vatting, malolactic fermentation is made in tank. The wines are aged during 15 months in barrels which have already been used once for Château Pavie and Château Monbousquet.

Grape Varieties: This wine is a very typical right-bank Bordeaux blend, composed of 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc Gérard Perse, owner of the renowned Châteaux Pavie, Pavie-Decesse, Monbousquet, and Bellevue Mondotte, has produced a new wine called “Esprit de Pavie” under the Bordeaux appellation. This wine is produced on Bordeaux’s finest terroirs of gravel, clay, and clay-limestone soils situated on the fully south-facing slopes of the Dordogne Valley. Like the other wines in the Perse collection, Esprit de Pavie receives the same care and attention which produces a distinctive level of quality
