2012 Harvey River Bridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Harvey River Bridge Estate winemaker Stuart Pierce earned his stripes making sweet white wines in France’s Sauternes region and tangy, dry Rieslings in the Clare Valley. That’s why it’s a pleasant surprise to see him win the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy for the "Best One Year Old Red Wine" at the Melbourne Wine Show for a 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon. This satisfying red proves it was no fluke as the well rounded winemaker has crafted great follow-ups with this Cabernet which offers an amalgam of rich berry fruits supported by spicy oak characters.

Winemaker's Notes

Harvested after a warm summer, the wine has a vibrant ripe juicy fruit sweetness upfront supported by natural acids and tannins. It has rich intensity of red berry fruits and shows great complexity.

Ray Jordan (2010 Vintage) says
Seriously good cabernet from this slightly angular and restrained vintage. Based on classic lines with grainy tannins and leafy blackcurrant fruit. Still quite taut in the middle but there is excellent intensity that carries very long on the finish. An excellent wine of great style and poise.

Full-on cabernet here. This one has some balls with a stack of fruit and a dust jacket of oak. Tannisn are strong and quite grippy, yet there's some punchy fruit in here. The oak is nicely weighted and the finish sustained. This will need a little time to settle down.
