2012 Lloyd Brothers Premium McLaren Vale Premium Grenache

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

From “a little gem of a block” in the Seaview sub-region planted 60 years ago. Entirely dry grown, the vines produce small bunches and small berries which concentrate the flavours of the fruit. Like all Lloyd Brothers wines this is hand-picked. On the nose violets, spice and star anise jump out of the glass. The palate is earthy, savoury and structural with more-ish cinnamon and red cherry characters. Finishes long with soft delicate tannins. Cellar for 10 to 15 years.

2012 Lloyd Brothers Premium McLaren Vale Premium Grenache

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Excellent colour for Grenache; estate-grown, with that gravitas that McLaren Vale can bestow on the variety, and which eludes other regions; the span of red fruit flavours is prodigious, but without a scintilla of confection, and the tannin structure is exemplary. All that is missing is a screwcap.

Huon Hooke (2012 Vintage) says
Deep, dark red colour with a purple tinge; the aromas are jammy and sweetly overripe, but it's clean and attractive in its way. It's full-bodied and sweet-fruited, with plenty of tannin and guts, some oak and plenty of grip. A bold, full-bodied wine which should take some age well.
