2012 Mr Mick Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Clare not only turns out excellent Riesling, they also do a pretty good job with medium-bodied reds too. This offering is from a good vintage and shows appealing, attractive smells of pepper and cinnamon spice, cassis, and a hint of deli-meat savouriness before the palate chimes in with a solid but fine thread of tannins, poised acidity, and a bit of richness to the long fruit and spice finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Mr Mick’s favourite red variety was, without doubt, Shiraz. From his early days working in the vineyards to the end of his amazing career 57 years later, wines made from Clare Valley Shiraz captivated him with their power and elegant synergism. This wine seeks to emulate just that style, elegant yet flavoursome, gentle enough to sit and taste, and great with food.

Tasting Note: This wine has lifted violet and raspberry fruit bouquet with nuances of oak, pepper and spices. It is rounded and full bodied with soft tannins and dark cherry and ruby berries.

Winemaking: Shiraz, fermented for a week with it's skins, was then gently pressed, with all pressings in this blend. The wine was then matured using a mixture of American oak for 18 months before bottling.

Cellaring Potential & Food Match: It is suitable for drinking anytime from the present to ten years of age, and will complement all red meat cuisine.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Good colour; an honest, generously flavoured and structured Shiraz, with plum and black cherry/blackberry fruit, tannins and oak sufficient for the task.
