Cracka Review

This kind of value out of Coonawarra doesn’t get much better than this! From an epic vintage comes this fuller-bodied, pepper spice wine that shows other smells of blackberries, red fruits and toasty cedar. The palate is sweetly-fruited and spiced, with licks of herbs and earthiness, a bit of chew to the tannins, and a lingering spicy finish. Try it with steak and pepper sauce.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2012 Redman Shiraz is made from grapes grown on forty five year old, hand pruned vines from the Redman family vineyards in the heart of Coonawarra.

Appearance: Medium to dark red with some purple tints.

Nose: Pepper and spice fruit nose with hints of vanilla oak.

Palate: The mid weight palate shows spicey fruit, firm tannins and balanced acidity. The bright finish is clean with lingering flavour.

Cellaring: Recommended best drinking around 7 - 10 years old.

Wine Companion (2012 Vintage) says
There or thereabouts. Well-structured, slightly beefy, blackberried wine with saltbush and lead pencil notes rounding it out. Will be better with a few more years under its belt; cork permitting.

Campbell Mattinson (2012 Vintage) says
It is especially given that it’s a cellar worthy style. There’s a firmness to the tannin, and a general feeling of balance. It’s mid-weight with red and black berries, saltbush and lead pencil notes. It’s well rounded. And lengthy-enough. It’s worth popping a few away.

Jeremy Oliver (2010 Vintage) says
Lifted by scents of red and blue flowers, with a faintly meaty, confiture-like fragrance of juicy redcurrants, raspberries and sweet, spicy oak preceding a medium to full-bodied palate. Backed by fresh vanilla/cedary oak and nuances of dried herbs and supported by fine, but rather gritty tannins, it's ripe and smooth, moderately long and concentrated. It just needs some time to settle.

Jeremy Oliver (2009 Vintage) says
Deeply fruited, rich and generous, with a sweet floral bouquet of spicy raspberries, redcurrants, violets and cassis with musky undertones of blackberries and cedar/vanilla oak, cloves and cinnamon. Long and brightly lit, it's elegant and deeply flavoured, with a finish, drying spine of powdery tannins. While it finishes a fraction unpolished, it's quite complete and at this stage at least, able to handle its 14.8% alcohol.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Deep colour, and essency in character, with blackberry pastille, thyme and toasty oak; medium- to full-bodied with tangy acidity and a fine, dry and even finish; follows on from the '08, which won a gold medal at the National Wine Show '11.

Jeremy Oliver (2006 Vintage) says
An elegant, savoury and spicy shiraz of balance and charm. Its fragrance of raspberries, cassis, redcurrants and white pepper has a background of measured chocolate/vanilla oak, floral notes and a tea tin-like aroma. It's long, darkfruited and briary, with a pleasing length of slightly meaty fruit supported by fine, bony tannins and finishing quite savoury, with a lingering core of vibrant flavour.

Jeremy Oliver (2005 Vintage) says
Silky and sour-edged, this restrained and cedary shiraz reveals a sweet, earthy fragrance of dark plums and blackberries, white pepper, cloves and cedar/chocolate oak backed by nuances of iris, lavender and iodide. Its long, elegant and delightfully balanced palate of vibrant small berry/plum fruit and loose-knit, creamy tannin is ready to cellar.
