Cracka Review

This is a more ballsy style of shiraz from Salomon, and certainly has a bit more oomph to it compared to the syrah viognier offering. Smells of ripe cherries and Christmas cake rise from the glass, along with star anise and pepper spice. The palate is full-bodied and quite sweetly-fruited, with tastes of plum jam and baked spices, a decent hit of toasted vanilla from the oak, a solid and slightly grippy line of tannins, and a long, juicy, toast and spice finish. Needs some slow roasted meats for company!

Winemaker's Notes

Classic Shiraz fruit with strong backbone.

A deep red wine with a nose of fresh plums, wild herbs, and black olives. Its elegant bounty of fruit is supported by fine chocolate notes. Full-bodied, highly concentrated, yet deeply structured with impeccably integrated tannins. A grand wine that flourishes upon decanting.

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Excellent colour; the expressive bouquet of black fruits, earth, licorice and dark chocolate plays out to perfection on the medium-bodied palate, which has impeccable line, length and balance; the tannins and oak provide a fully integrated framework for the fruit.

Deep red-purple; has greater richness and depth than prior vintages, flush with blackberry, spicy plum and Christmas cake flavours, tannins playing an important role.

Strong colour; a well-made and well-balanced medium-bodied shiraz, with an attractive mix of plum/blackberry fruit and more savoury/spicy tannins and oak. A very harmonious wine with a long, perfectly balanced finish.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Rich, ripe, bold and oaky, a tale of varied styles; distinctly warm fruited and Australian, but with a tarry, almost chewy European edge which speaks volumes of its heritage.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Medium- to full-bodied, supple and mouthfilling; rich but not heavy or jammy blackberry, plum and licorice fruit; fully representative of the '04 vintage where the crop has been thinned; seamless oak and tannins.
