2012 Sticks No. 29 Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Yarra Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The Yarra Valley has a rich history of making Cabernet, but in recent years it’s the Shiraz and Pinot that have stolen the limelight. Sticks has made a cracking example of how cool climate Cabernet should taste and you won’t be disappointed if you were to pair this with a roast leg of lamb. This wine has a rating of 95 points from Wine Critic James Halliday who was won over by the intensity of cassis and black fruits, the gentle tannins, integrated oak and stylish finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Deep maroon with red hue.

Nose: Dark currants, blackberry, earthy, dried tea leaf .

Palate: Red fruits, cinnamon, olive, chocolate, fine tannins, elegant.

Food: Aed wagyu carpaccio with rich vegetable ratatouille.

Cellaring: Released after 12 months bottle age, an additional 10 years plus will further enhance complexity.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
A vibrant, elegant and restrained bouquet of pure cassis, redcurrant, toasty oak and nutmeg; the medium-bodied palate is lined with ample and quite silky fine-grained tannins, lingering harmoniously for a long time on the finish; elegance and power blended seamlessly.

Strong crimson-purple; from a single vineyard planted in '83, using the Geneva double curtain trellis, uncommon in the Yarra Valley but worked perfectly in the warm vintage; lovely cassis and blackcurrant fruit, fine tannins and quality oak.

The best advice I can give is to buy a bottle; if you like it, buy a dozen or so, but leave the wine alone for at least five years; it has everything, but those tannins have to be tamed by time.
