It's not often that the wine critics all agree with each other. Which means that when a wine comes along with as many awards and high scores as this Blue Pyrenees Estate Red and its previous vintages have, you really take notice. Needless to say this is great wine. An epic wine, that absolutely everyone seems to love. Best to fill your cellar with a few cases of this superstar today!

Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (73%), Merlot (19%), Shiraz (4%) and Merlot. All French oak, 40% new. It’s a beauty. It’s perfectly put together. It’s rich with berried fruit flavour and grunty with tannin; both at appropriate levels, both seductive in their own way. Minted, foresty berries with chocolate and woodspice characters. Maybe some herbs. It all just flows, it all just works. And it lingers. It’s made to last/cellar but it’s so well balanced, and so juicy with fruit, that it can be enjoyed now.

A 68/22/8/2% blend of cabernet, merlot, malbec and shiraz matured for 20 months in French and American barriques (15% new). Trophy Qld Wine Show '14, gold medal Melbourne Wine Show '14. Does have some studied elegance, and is fruit (not oak) driven. Moreover, the show record of two successes is very different to one. So, I'll take the glass half full route.

Excellent colour: deep red/purple, youthful and bright. Violets and dark berry aromas flood the glass. The wine is very full-bodied, dense and powerful, concentrated and long, with intense flavour backed up by ample smooth ripe tannins. The entirety persists for a long time in the mouth, the tannins cleansing the finish beautifully. Superb wine, worth cellaring long term. (Gold medals in Brisbane & Melbourne and trophy for best bordeaux blend in Brisbane, 2014)

How it looks: Deep ruby red with a purple hue.

How it smells: Fragrant red berry fruit, forest floor complexity and classy cedar oak aromas.

How it tastes: A generous mouthful of mulberry fruit up front, complimented by mature flavours of tobacco leaves, mushroom and cedary oak. The rich yet even palate structure of this blended red is framed by abundant yet integrated fine grain tannins & delivers a traditional old world style, suitable for ageing, with lingering fresh berry & choc-mint flavours.
