James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Deep crimson, bright; a deeply complex and compelling bouquet of dark cherry, plum, vine sap and cold tea stemmy notes in harmony with the fruit; the palate is fleshy and seductively textured, with silky tannins a feature, drawing out the palate to a crescendo of exotic flavours; a beautiful wine that will enthral from the start to the finish.

Lovely depth and complexity here: clear, whole-bunch fragrance, cherries and strawberries, some sweet, cola-like aromas too, cinnamon and other hard, brown spices, bracken too. The palate s full of flavour and energy, plenty of tannin here, really compelling structure and length; will develop beautifully over the medium term.

If anything, has even more purple shade than the Mornington wine; the density of the bouquet leaves you in no doubt this is an imperious pinot, the palate fully living up to the message from the bouquet, with layer upon layer of dark fruits playing tag with the ripe tannins that provide texture and structure on the long finish.

The '09 Farrside pinot is an essay in purity and precisely struck ripeness, showing an abundance of fine, creamed baking spice and deep cherry/plum fragrance, haunting depth and deep-dug complexity; some fragrance builds with air. The palate delivers on all the promises of the nose, with sinewy, athletic tannins drawing deep, curved shape and driving long through the finish. Dark spices to close. Superb.

Fresh varietal flavours all held together with nicely acidic small red fruits, overall terrific finesse and silky tannins, a wonder-filled pinot.

Very few Australian pinot noirs have delivered as much complexity and as much focus as this wine, which is crafted at the experienced hands of the Farr family. Smells concentrated, rich and deeply spicy to start, building sappy complex cherry and plum-scented pinot noir; some fresh basil and betel leaf too. The palate's lit by bright acid, holding crunchy cherry-plum flavour straight as an arrow, backed by a powerful, precise core of lacy pinot tannin. Classic iron fist in a velvet glove here.

The bouquet has strong red fruit, spice and oak aromas; the palate has that trademark Farr texture, tannins and cherry /plum fruit seamlessly welded on the very long, sustained palate.
