What do we think?
Here's a solid style of chardy out of the Napa Valley that would be great with roast chicken, or even something a bit richer like pork or game birds. It has a fair bit of impact on the nose, with aromas of peaches, apples, pears and melons, with licks of butter and vanilla oak. The palate is more medium-bodied and a tad rich, with stone fruit and citrus flavours, licks of subtle butterscotch and vanilla, friendly acidity, and a smooth finish.

Clos Du Val, French for “small vineyard estate of a small valley,” was founded in 1972 in the renowned Stags Leap District by Franco-American vintner John Goelet. The winery was first recognized for its Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons at the famed Judgment of Paris in 1976, establishing its place as one of Napa Valley’s most iconic winery estates. Still familyowned today, Clos Du Val farms 350 acres of estate vineyards in the Stags Leap District, Carneros and Yountville appellations. Focusing on this diverse palette of fruit, Winemaker Kristy Melton makes elegantly structured wines notable for their balance, complexity, and vivid fruit character.

Tasting note: The stunning year of 2013 produced some of the best quality fruit we have had the pleasure to work with at the winery. Our estate vineyard in Carneros is composed of seven different clones that produce beautifully complex aromas and flavors. The wine opens with aromas of fresh apples, pineapple and pear coupled with soft vanilla and toast. The palate is met with flavors of tropical fruit, lemon curd and fresh citrus. The mouthfeel is full and integrated with vibrancy and life, perfect for enjoying on its own or paired with poultry, seafood and pastas.
