    Although they have only been established for just a short while, the people at Dandelion were singled out by wine writer James Halliday as one of the best new wineries of 2011. They claim to be a collective of vignerons and vineyards but at the very heart, is their talented winemaker Elena Brooks. This is an intense Eden Valley Shiraz showing plum, blueberry and spice. The palate is a concentrated festival of berries with notes of chocolate and baking spices. It’s well structured with fine tannins and pairs well with steak.

    Full crimson-purple; the grapes come from the 99-year old Kroehn Vineyard; hand-picked, open-fermented and basket-pressed to French barriques, and matured for 2_ years. A seriously complex wine, awash with red berry and black fruits, the tannins fine but persistent, the overall balance impeccable; the French oak will disappear into the wine as it ages.420 dozen made.

    Deep purple-crimson; a beautifully crafted and balanced wine of the kind that only comes from a single vineyard planted in 1912, the grapes open-fermented and hand-plunged before spending two and a half years in 50% new French oak barriques. Simple really. 320 dozen made.

    A single-site bottling of a vineyard planted in 1912, this has that magic old-vine mix of depth and elegance. The nose carries blackberry and red-fruit aromas, plenty of toasty oak and spice, some hints of mocha and dark chocolate too. On the palate, it's silky smooth and svelte, with juicy, perfectly ripe red-berry and plum flavours running bright from start to finish. It's a wine of real elegance and poise - great length and impeccable balance.

    A rich and concentrated Eden Valley shiraz that really makes a striking impression. Plenty of blackberries and spiced plums, with a savoury edge that runs through to cocoa and freshly mixed concrete. On the palate, it’s seductive richness and velvet from start to finish. A smartly poised shiraz, with plum-fruit flavour, fleshy texture and decent length.

    From the same vineyard as the '09, the garrulous back label telling us among dozens of other things that 'whole bunches of flavour ripe shiraz were hand harvested' (machines can't pick whole bunches) then 'gently crushed' (ever seen a gentle crusher/de-stemmer?) and so forth. However, as with the '09, this is a wonderful wine crammed full of flavour, yet ultra-smooth and perfectly balanced in all respects.

    Dandelion Vineyards is a unique fusion of vineyards and vignerons. Our wines represent decades of experience, blending the fruit of our old vine gardens with the finest traditions of artisanal winemaking.

    Dandelion Vineyards are proven plantings that have stood the test of time. Our wish is to nurture the unique character of these vineyards and express their terroir in our wines.

    Capturing variety, vintage and vineyard requires an enlightened approach and although our growers see the Devil in every weed, we encourage the humble Dandelion amongst the vines as they suppress winter weeds, provide mulch in summer, and proffer their Wishing Clocks in spring to blow off and make our wish come true.

    Colour: Deep purple-crimson.

    Nose: An immensely complex, dark, brooding character, red and black fruits, pepper and spice, with liquorice and tar.

    Palate: Lingering black fruit on the palate, with pepper seasoning. There is an incredibly deep range of flavour, a mix of red and black berries complimented by vibrant pepper and leaf notes. Elegant tannins and lingering acidity help extend the finish and the overall balance is impeccable.

    Drink: Perfectly matched with all richly flavoured foods, meats, stews, game or mature hard cheeses. Alluring on the palate our Red Queen commands company with food and friends.
