2013 Forest Hill Vineyard Block 8 Mount Barker Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2013 Vintage) says
Hand-picked, chilled, free-run juice pressed to French oak (40% new) for cool fermentation and 10 months maturation. An ultra-elegant and fine Chardonnay with grapefruit, melon and white peach fruit in a seamless stream running through the long, perfectly balanced palate, the oak having been effortlessly absorbed.

Mike Bennie (2013 Vintage) says

Winemaker and viticulture team of Clemence and Lee Haselgrove were in full flight of defining the style of Forest Hill Chardonnay in 2013. A formidable era for the extraordinary vineyard too. Young winemaker Guy Lyons from Forest Hill is a bit of a dude, seems determined to maintain the strength of the wines. Great to see youthful vitality following through from what many rationalise was a pretty big loss in the exit of key personnel.

Very perfumed, for Chardonnay, quite evocative in sandalwood, rose petal, dusting of cinnamon, green apple, gently toasted almonds. Suppleness in texture, smooth, almost feathery through its length, set on very brisk acidity but shows sumptuous savouriness in nut paste, halva-like character. Length is remarkable; flavours linger, as does mouthwatering acidity. Superb wine. Such grace.

Layered and explosive with lots of dried fruit, cooked apple and yogurt character. Full body, deep and flavourful. Classic high-toned Aussie Chardonnay.
