2013 Hardy's Eileen Hardy Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Dripping with show medals and critical acclaim this is very much an 'icon level' Australian Shiraz. Just calling it that is glossing over how approachable a wine it is - rich and ripe, yet also polished and well made. Top shelf Shiraz, no question about it.

Winemaker's Notes

Youthful deep brooding dark colour, belying its age. Highly complex aromas of chocolate, meat, leather, black olive, fresh blueberry and persimmon flesh. Underlying spicy French oak and savoury, smoky notes add to this fragrant wine. A powerful dense wine exhibiting layers of texture and flavour resulting in a wine of great persistance and balance. Dark chocolate, plum and ripe blueberry sit in harmonious balance with subtle French oak and silky fine tannins.

Food match: Rib eye steak.

2013 Hardy's Eileen Hardy Shiraz

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2013 Vintage) says
The texture of this wine makes an instantaneous and exquisite impression, making the moderate alcohol seem even lower than it is. This is an old money aristocrat, elegantly unfurling layer after layer of red and black fruits, licorice and spice on the prodigiously long palate. The best Eileen since '71.

The Wine Front (2013 Vintage) says
Splintery oak, leather, dark fruits, warm spice, sniff of pepper and herbs. Has a lot going on in bouquet, but its the ripple of oak that comes first. Palate is fluid, smooth, dense in dark fruits, spice, Christmas cake dried fruits. It slips and slide, feels warming and round, takes its time as it stains the mouth and rolls into the distance. Brooding fruit, warm spicy oak, tobacco, graphite tinged tannins. Complex wine of serious feel. It needs time at opening, and in cellar.
