Cracka Review

A beautiful Shiraz, from a great maker, in a superb year. So many boxes ticked here that it begs belief, with the sort of long finish to ensure it will live well for a decade from now without even trying.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Deep and dense garnet

Aroma: Lush plums and black cherry fruit seasoned with pepper, spice, vanilla and mocha

Palate: Dense fruit weight of blackberry, plum and cherry, laced with liquorice and cocoa. The mouthfeel and texture of the wine is rich, velvety and supple

Food ideas: Potato and chorizo omelette

Cellaring: Now and over the next 5 years

Alc/vol: 14.0%

Expert Reviews

Wine Companion (2013 Vintage) says
Mid-weight, clean and fruit-driven but with just enough earthen/dried spice input to keep it from seeming simple. Beautifully balanced. Will tick over in an unfussed manner for many a good year.

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
This is not unique in mounting a case for the Great Southern's ability to produce higher quality shiraz than elsewhere in WA; while only medium-bodied, the intensity and focus of its spicy black fruits, the silky tannins and sheer length are a total delight

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Deep but bright purple-crimson; sourced from vineyards in the Frankland River and Mount Barker subregions of Great Southern; this is an intense and full-bodied shiraz with great balance to its panoply of black fruits, spice, licorice and oak flavours; the texture and balance guarantee a long life.
