cracka review

Top notch Nebbiolo out of Piedmonte can get up there in price, so if you haven’t tried it yet, this is a good place to start. It's a medium-bodied, fragrant wine that shows spicy red and dark berries on the nose, along with rose florals and a touch of earthy tarmac. The palate is quite elegant, with a solid-but-approachable line of tannins, a generous lick of toasty oak, and a cherry & savoury finish. Try it with duck, or a lamb hotpot.

winemaker's notes

100% Nebbiolo from the Starderi Neive. The vines grow at 270m altitude on calcareous soils with a southern exposure, and are between 19 and 22 years old. The vineyard is managed sustainably, with no use of herbicides or pesticides. It undergoes alcoholic fermentation for 7-8 days in temperature controlled roto-fermenters followed by malolactic fermentation in oak. It spends 12 months in medium toast, used French oak barrels and is later transferred to stainless steel vats for two months. After bottling, it is aged for another 12 months in glass. It is not fined or filtered.

Colour: Typical light red of Nebbiolo.

Bouquet: Aromas of dried rose petals and dark fruits such as plums and blueberry.

Taste: Full bodied, chewy and rich with dusty tannins and a juicy yet elegant finish.

Evolution: 15 years.

Pairings: Ideal with grilled food, sauced and roasted red meat and wild game.

Recommended Serving Temp: 16 -17 Celsius.
