2013 Lake Breeze Winemaker's Selection Shiraz

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Only 250 dozen made, hand-picked from the oldest vines, and thereafter the result of a selection of the best barrels. Vibrant, deep crimson-purple; a sumptuous shiraz with black fruits and berries, dashes of dark chocolate and licorice, the oak exactly proportioned.

Jeremy Oliver (2010 Vintage) says
A slow- maturing long-term shiraz of concentration and power. Minty and deeply layered, with a spicy, heady bouquet of blackberries, dark plums handsomely matched with smoky cedary, chocolatey oak, it reveals meaty, gamey undertones. It?s opulent and ultra-ripe, but has significantly more elegance than expected at 14.8% alcohol, with lashings of dense flavour wrapped in firm, but velvety tannins, extending long and smooth towards a lively, vibrant finish.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Purple -crimson; the bouquet is fragrant with spiced black fruits to the fore, the palate moving up a gear, with intense blackberry and cherry fruit, the tannins firm but in balance, alcohol likewise; long finish.

Jeremy Oliver (2008 Vintage) says
Very smooth and refined, this stylish, meaty and quite smoky shiraz reveals musky, clove-like aromas of dark plums and berries tightly knit with fine-grained newish oak. Very approachable indeed, with a pliant spine of silky tannin beneath a juicy, carefully oaked palate bursting with dark fruit flavour, it finishes with a faint briny, savoury aspect.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Bright hue; an elegant style, no more than medium-bodied, but with intensity and focus to the gently spicy black fruits; has very good length and balance, the tannins - as always - soft.

Jeremy Oliver (2005 Vintage) says
A ripe, intense and minty regional shiraz whose searingly concentrated flavours of blackberries, cassis and dark plums are handsomely backed by dark chocolate vanilla oak. It's very smooth and polished, with a luscious, palate-staining presence of dark, meaty fruit underpinned by very fine, loose-knit tannins and spicy oak. It's also very mineral, with distinct salty aspects.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Strong purple-red; quite aromatic plum and cherry fruit on the bouquet; medium-bodied, with supple mouthfeel, controlled oak and silky tannins.

Jeremy Oliver (2004 Vintage) says
Finely crafted, elegant and stylish, this brambly, ripe and minty shiraz marries classic menthol-like Langhorne Creek regional influence with vibrant, juicy varietal qualities. Deftly handled bacony and slightly gamey oak enhances its meaty but vibrant flavours of raspberries and blackberries, while it's supported by a fine, silky spine of tight-knit tannins.

James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Smooth, supple, round, plum and blackberry fruit; soft tannins, balanced oak; long finish and a touch of bitter chocolate.
Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005
James Halliday (2000 Vintage) says
Medium purple-red; clean, moderately intense blackberry fruit and subtle oak on the bouquet lead into a round, smooth, medium-bodied palate with gently mouthfilling black fruit flavours, fine tannins and gentle acidity. The type of wine Australia should be making more of, not less.
Australian Wine Companion 2004 2003
James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Dense red-purple; big, rich, concentrated ripe fruit with swathes of American oak on both bouquet and palate produce a wine of unashamed show style
Australian Wine Companion 2001 2001
James Halliday (1996 Vintage) says
Full red-purple; very concentrated and rich black cherry fruit and lots of spicy oak. The palate shows the same abundant mix of sweet spicy fruit and oak interwoven. The texture is soft, rich and chewy, and notwithstanding the masses of sweet vanilla oak, the total flavour is irresistible.
