2013 Mojo Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Violet red with a purple hue.

Nose: Distinctive herbaceous mint, blackcurrant, briar, tobacco leaf and a hint of spice.

Palate: Fleshy, vibrant up front notes of blackcurrant pastille and cassis, immersed in lighter dashes of cranberry and crabapple. fruit which seamlessly merge with secondary wisps of chocolate, almond, fresh mint and a lick of stalky high notes. Balanced ubiquitous acid imparts structural support and along with the cedary oak bestows bountiful texture by silkily meshing the palate together and neatly fusing with the ample, supple tannin which delivers a lengthy, dry, chalky finish.

Food: Serve with minted lamb cutlets, mushroom loaded beef wellington or for the more adventurous roasted saddle of hare.

Alcohol: 13.5%

Winemaking: This wine has built a loyal following and hits the ground running inspired by some awesome new packaging and on the back of the 95pts scored by the 2012 (as rated by Halliday). Pristine fruit from the 2013 season enabled this wine to sit on skins for a very lengthy extended maceration of three months, quite extraordinary for a wine at this price point and a major factor driving the texture. Maturation in some seriously good yet subtle oak has highlighted the fruit enabling the tireless work done in the vineyard to shine. I am extremely excited to release this wine as it is loaded with flavour, varietal charm and great mouthfeel; but more importantly is seamless and balanced, making it easy drinking for the punter and representing real value for money.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2013 Vintage) says
What a beautiful medium-bodied wine. It will perform very well in the cellar too. It's all blackcurrant and mulberry, tobacco leaf and cedar wood. It's varietal, rounds all the bases well, is threaded with assertive tannin and lingers with complex flavour. Not a big wine by any stretch, with an ever-so-slight dip through the mid-palate, but everything is more or less spot on. A drop dead bargain.
