Cracka Review

No one wants to come to a sticky end, but if that end was this lush, marmalade-like dessert wine, perhaps it wouldn’t be so bad. Ripe apricots, candied orange and honey scents rise from the glass to seduce the senses, whilst the palate is soft and nicely sweet without being syrupy, friendly acidity, and a soft apricoty finish. It would be great with a creme brûlée.

Winemaker's Notes

True to his winemaking philosophy, the 2013 Sticky End Riesling, a supremely delicate ‘sticky’ with finesse and elegance, is definitely a wine Ben loves to drink. And he’d like others to come to the same sticky ending. All the fruit is sourced from the Ben’s dear friends, the Tomich family, Woodside Vineyard. This vineyard is one of the largest cool-climate vineyards in the Adelaide Hills.

The ripest fruit was handpicked, deep frozen for two weeks then broken down to press. As the fruit thawed, the most intense flavours were released while the water remained frozen. Matured in old French oak for 12 months. Fragrant Turkish Delight, warm honey and candied citrus flavours abound, layers of sweet pleasure. A perfect sticky ending!

Perfumed nose with some fruit. Broad, sweet palate - simple but has good fruit.

Desiccated on racks; lively acidity gives the wine appeal, although it is not especially sweet.

A good level of sweetness, with ripe and clean fleshy fruit; a hint of botrytis, but fresh acid keeps the finish clean.

Very ripe, complex, raisined fruit bouquet with a delicate floral note. Luscious palate - very sweet, with a lovely earthy complexity. Well made.

Very good flavour, and in particular good texture and freshness on the finish; moderately sweet, not for the die-hard sugar fan.
