2013 Sonsierra Crianza Rioja Tempranillo
Typically savoury with lovely licoricey flavours and a drying finish, this medium-bodied Tempranillo has all of the nutty vanilla bean berry characters and topped up with just a little coffeed oak decadence, all making for a wine of maximum drinking pleasure.
This is a very smart Tempranillo, from a producer that is kicking Rioja goals.
Vineyards: Harvested by hand and located in the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria.
Variety: 100% Tempranillo.
Elaboration: Maceration for 24 hours before fermentation. Alcoholic fermentation with regular pumping over in stainless steel vats for 8 days at a temperature-controlled 24ºC to retain and extract the maximum amount of fruity flavours. Maceration for 24-48 hours after fermentation. Malolactic fermentation in concrete vats.
Ageing: 12 months in large American barrels. Minimum 3 months ageing in the bottle.
Mid-depth colouring: Ruby red colour with vibrant hues.
The nose: It offers a distinguished melding of cocoa, vanilla and coffee, resulting from its ageing in the barrel, with hints of black fruits and licorice.
The mouth: It is rounded and well balanced with pleasant notes of fruit and vanilla which invite us to keep drinking.
