2013 Stella Bella Serie Luminosa Chardonnay

Cracka Value Rating

Cracka Review

This chardy from Stella Bella in Margaret River may well be one of the best they have ever made! It's a wonderfully complex little puppy, with layers of white stone fruits, yellow citrus, roasted nuts and creaminess on the nose, which translates to the full-fruited palate that has some real 'kapow' and concentration. It's all wrapped up in a neat tight acid and velvety textured bow leading to a peachy, slightly spicy finish. This will only improve with a couple of years cellar-time.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Pale straw with a light golden sheen

Aroma: The wine has fragrant aromas of zesty lime and nashi pear, a floral perfume of orange blossom and cashew, all showing great intensity and harmony

Palate: The refined and textural palate continues with citrus - grapefruit and lemon - supported by the complexity of nougat and subtle smoky matchstick character. The texture is juicy with a taut framework complemented by our trademark spring water minerality – the melding of delicately spiced oak and beautiful fruit is faultless. A wine of great length, elegance and definition that coats the palate perfectly

Food: Ravioli alla Caprese with a lemon butter sauce

Drink: Now to 2023

Alc/vol: 12.5%

2013 Stella Bella Serie Luminosa Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

Wine Companion (2013 Vintage) says
Pale straw-green; a wonderful chardonnay, immediately and insistently proclaiming its class; a perfect fusion of fragrant, juicy pink grapefruit, white peach, nectarine, cashew, oak and all-important crisp acidity on the very long finish.

Gary Walsh (2013 Vintage) says
Pleasant amount of struck match, lime, cashew, maybe nashi pear or similar. It’s light, with a slippery glycerol feel, lovely clean acidity that presents just a little tweak and mineral edge, but stays subdued and calming – like a light spring shower on a warm day. There’s a little spicy smoky oak, and a flinty almost (youthful) candied fruit finish of excellent length and definition. Beautiful wine. Can drink now too. Easily.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
“Bright straw-green; there is no quiet entry into this wine, its grip on the mouth immediate and unrestrained; despite this unbridled power, the line, the length and the balance are all exemplary, the pure expression of varietal character needing no comment.”

Wine Advocate (2010 Vintage) says
“Aged for 12 months in Burgundian French oak barrels, 20% new, the 2010 Serie Luminosa Chardonnay gives tantalizing stone fruit and savory notes of apricots, meal, lightly buttered toast and yeast extract, plus whiffs of lemon curd and ground ginger. Medium-bodied, it offers a great concentration of ripe peaches and cream flavors with just enough toastiness packaged in a silken texture and a pleasant lift from the crisp acid in the long finish. Enjoy this one now or let it cellar gracefully to 2018."
