2013 Tuck's Ridge Chardonnay Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Tuck's Ridge is one of the top wineries in the Mornington Peninsula, and when they turn out wines like this, it's easy to see why. It's a bright white stone fruit, lemon and melon wine that brings a twist of old charm butteriness and nuttiness to the party, along with hints of green apples and cream. It's all wrapped up in balanced acidity and a long, rich finish that will see this match well with poultry dishes.

Winemaker's Notes

Beautiful light straw colour with a bouquet of fig, melon and mixed stone fruit, veiled in citrus spice. Rich and generous texture with seamless transition from start to the back of the palate and a luscious sustained finish. The perfect balance provides the possibility for enjoyment for many years.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2013 Vintage) says
In the mainstream of traditional Mornington Peninsula style, with toasty/creamy notes ex mlf contrasting with bright varietal fruit expression, citrus and stone fruit to the fore.

Campbell Mattinson (2014 Vintage) says
Obvious style with sweet oak on sunny/peachy fruit. There's plenty of flavour through the finish but the fruit hasn't been handled in the most sympathetic of ways; a fact some will no doubt love. The fruit itself here is high quality.

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Bright, light straw-green; the fragrant, citrus-tinged bouquet leads into a bracingly fresh palate, with white peach and grapefruit the major players in the fruit orchestra; the French oak is totally integrated, the finish long and vibrant.

Jeremy Oliver (2011 Vintage) says
Fine, taut and focused, with delightful purity. Backed by sweet vanilla oak and nectarine, its fresh, tropical fragrance of pineapple, melon and grapefruit is scented with a perfume of white flowers. Underpinned by a fine minerality, its intense, translucent palate extends long and elegantly towards its spicy, citrusy finish of refreshing acidity.

Bright light straw-green; a super-fragrant and complex bouquet, intense fruit and oak both in play, the palate with tremendous energy and drive, finishing with grapefruit-flavoured acidity.

Elegant, long and shapely, with Macon-like pretensions. Backed by restrained spicy oak. its fresh aromas of grapefruit, peach and melon reveal hints of lemon sherbet and mineral. Tangy and youthful, with tropical and peachy fruit, creamy vanilla oak and a fine, chalky undercarriage, it finishes with a hint of nuttiness and a briny lick of oyster shell.

Jeremy Oliver (2008 Vintage) says
A generous, forward but slightly angular chardonnay with a sweet and candied aroma of fresh grapefruit and melon backed by creamy cashew-like oak and a hint of sweetcorn. Smooth and juicy, it's vibrant and tangy with a mildly skinsy palate of fresh grapefruit, tropical, melon and lemony fruit backed by a slightly awkward chalkiness, but finishing with crunchy acids.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Light straw-green; quality chardonnay, unfairly put in the shade by the Buckle and Turramurra Vineyard wines; all the inputs are in balance, the melon and stone fruit driving the wine with the aid of citrussy acidity.

Jeremy Oliver (2007 Vintage) says
Delicate and fragrant, with bright aromas of peach and pineapple backed by nuances of minerals and dried flowers, this crystal-clear chardonnay has a long, vibrant palate wrapped in deliriously crunchy acids. Its tropical, melon-like fruit and creamy vanilla oak overlie a fine, lemon sherbet-like chalkiness, finishing savoury, with freshness and clarity.

Clean and varietal, with good fruit weight; just a little one-dimensional, but clean and well made.

Jeremy Oliver (2006 Vintage) says
Brightly lit with fresh white peach, lemon and pineapple flavour, this very slightly candied and crunchy chardonnay reveals undertones of wheatmeal and fresh vanilla oak. It's rather floral and fragrant, and delivers a fresh, tangy and very generous and creamy palate that finishes with lingering suggestions of ripe fruit, green olives and undertones of funky smokiness.

Most attractive, fine grapefruit, melon and nectarine flavours; excellent balance, line and length; subtle barrel ferment oak inputs.Top gold medal Winewise '06.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Faintly funky complexity to the bouquet; the palate finishes slightly sweet, though not from residual sugar; should settle down with time.

Jeremy Oliver (2004 Vintage) says
A charming early-drinking chardonnay whose lightly herbaceous and sweaty aromas of peach, melon and dusty vanilla oak reveal undertones of cloves and cinnamon. Smooth and soft, its gentle palate is deeply flavoured with peach and nectarine-like fruit and creamy oak finishing with soft, clean acids. Lively and very approachable.

James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Light to medium yellow-green; melon, stone fruit, citrus and mineral aromas intermingle with subtle oak on the bouquet; the palate has exceptional mouthfeel and weight, almost glossy, yet not heavy nor hot. A lovely, fruit-driven wine.

Jeremy Oliver (2002 Vintage) says
Tangy, juicy chardonnay with a delicate and lightly herbal aroma of peach and pineapple, vanilla oak and spicy undertones. Smooth, soft and generous, its vibrant pear/pineapple flavours and creamy oak culminate in a focused and refreshing finish of clean, lively acidity.

James Halliday (2000 Vintage) says
Light green-yellow; a clean, crisp bouquet which is not especially fruity, although nectarine and melon are certainly there; the palate is pleasant, but lacks intensity; on the other hand, the oak handling is good.

James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says
Medium yellow-green; a quite rich bouquet with cashew, peach and honey is followed by a palate with intense nectarine, citrus and peach flavours, with good length and persistence. The oak is appropriately subtle

James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Medium yellow-green; the bouquet is clean, with attractive nectarine fruit; any oak present cannot be readily detected. There is plenty of ripe nectarine fruit on the palate which helps invest the wine with good texture; once again, no apparent oak influence.
