The Tyrrell’s range of wines is made up of an exhausting list of varieties and regions and the Lost Block is one of our favourites. Funnily it was named after a selection of fruit that was forgotten about and when they came back to it, it had become riper in flavour. That’s what you’ll find in this Shiraz Viognier; ripe fruit, full flavour and the kind of wine you’ll want to enjoy with some home cooked pizzas. The co-fermentation of Viognier with Shiraz has resulted in not just attractive, perfumed aromas but a soft tannin structure. It’s laden with black fruit, cherries and pepper and is seriously moreish.

Winemaker's Notes

The Lost Block range was born when an impending storm forced the Tyrrell’s vineyard crew to abandon a prized block of Hunter semillon to pick less storm resilient grapes. The ‘lost’ block was eventually picked days later and the Tyrrell’s winemaking team were so impressed with the characters of the finished wine, it was decided to give the wine a label of its own.

Over the years the range has expanded to include wine from some of Australia’s best known regions, each crafted in a ‘drink now’ style - soft and approachable with the same fresh, vibrant fruit characters that made Lost Block Semillon such a success.

Dark vibrant purple-red colours. The aroma is of ripe cooked plums and elegant peppery spice which is lifted by the floral perfume of the Viognier. The flavours are most reminiscent of fresh black cherries mixed with fine dark chocolate, the rounded tannin structure comes from time in older French oak. A soft, fresh, drinkable style, with a clean morish finish designed to be enjoyed with mid to short term cellaring. This wine is a perfect as a pre-dinner drink or as an accompaniment to pasta, pizza and red meat dishes.
