Cracka Review

Hailing from the cool climate heaven that is Great Southern, this single vineyard Chardonnay has received all of the TLC you'd expect. Handpicked over just a few hours at dawn, only 500L of juice from each tonne went into the ferment. Winemaker Matt Byrne used large format oak of various ages (30% new) to wild ferment on full lees before finishing with minimal fining and filtration.

On the palate it's replete with impact - full and intense with zippy pineapple and wet stone, it has complexity and layers galore. It reminds me of serious Meursault - understated power, fabulous complexity and a long, clean acid driven finish.

Winemaker's Notes

A classic cool-climate Australian Chardonnay showing bright and piercing nectarine and melon fruits intermingled with savoury barrel ferment and toasty complexity from high quality French oak barriques, finishing with crisp acidity.

A powerful Chardonnay showing Pemberton elegance and ideally matched with fresh Marron.

James Halliday (2013 Vintage) says
A wine of elegant power. It tastes of green melon, grapefruit and apple with only modest input from spicy oak; it hardly needs the adornment. It's fruity and succulent but exudes a calm authority, most noticeable in the length of its finish.
