Winemaker's Notes

Warm entry in your mouth well balanced by savoury tannins and good acidity, luminous ruby red colour. Beautiful crispy notes of dark berries, brambles and hints of black pepper. The power of this wine is its vivacity and freshness.

2014 Bellvale Pinot Noir

Expert Reviews

Gary Walsh (2015 Vintage) says
It’s a great time to be a Victorian Pinot fancier with these 2015 vintage wines coming on stream. Sappy, spicy and bursting with bright red cherry flavour. Light to medium bodied, fine grained ‘graphite’ tannin, has a kind or pomegranate tang and flavour too, and slightly bitter herbal finish of good length.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Produced from John Ellis's close-planted, dry-grown vineyard; the colour and clarity are beyond reproach, although on the light side. This is a wine of finesse, but, more than that, shows how pinot that initially appears light-bodied can and does expand dramatically on the finish and aftertaste, here with a mix of berries and bramble characters.
Australian Wine Companion 2013 2012
James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Crystal-clear crimson; a fragrant collage of red fruits on the bouquet, then a pure and long palate with a slight twist of forest tannins on the finish to add texture. Best for years, long life ahead.
Australian Wine Companion 2012 2011
James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Bright crimson; it has black cherry fruit on the bouquet and a long, layered palate, its mouthfeel slippery one moment, textured (by fine tannins) the next.
Australian Wine Companion 2011 2010
James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Lively and bright; while the palate is light-bodied, it has excellent thrust and length, with strong spicy notes to its fragrant red fruits.
Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009
James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
A truly spicy wine, with whole bunch stemmy character lifting the varietal red fruits; very fresh and lively with razor-like acidity holding the palate together for a very long time.
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Very light colour; savoury, spicy overtones to red cherry/strawberry fruit; elegant and balanced, but needs more intensity.
Australian Wine Companion 2008 2007
James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Typical strong colour; excellent dark plum, black cherry and spice aromas, the palate following down the same track; has the structure to age for longer than most.
Australian Wine Companion 2007 2006
James Halliday (2003 Vintage) says
Deep colour; very rich, powerful and concentrated; lashings of dark plum fruit, almost Central Otago in style; certainly New World.
