2014 Chaffey Bros Super Barossa

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

This full-blooded shiraz blend really is a super Barossa that gives a bit of bang for your buck! From a great vintage in SA, it shows lots of dark, rich, ripe fruits on the nose, with some pepper spice and dried mint in the mix. The palate is fleshy and fullsome, with dense cherry and plum flavours, some fineness to the approachable tannins and a long finish, with a kick of mint in the tail. Great with what else but beef cooked no more than medium-rare.

Winemaker's Notes

A celebration of the intensity of Shiraz and the layered structure of Cabernet Sauvignon. Great depth of fruit is complemented by the judicious use of fine-grained oak.

The backbone (68%) of the blend came from the blue-chip Ehrat vineyard on Krondorf Road, where dry-grown Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grow side-by-side. The remainder of the blend is Shiraz from Northern Eden Valley and two Shiraz vineyards from Light Pass and Stockwell.

The resulting blend is textured and multidimensional. Structured Krondorf Shiraz contributes rich plum and strawberry red fruits while the Cabernet offers inky black berry fruit and cassis.

Wine Companion (2014 Vintage) says
Bruising style. Oak, fruit and tannin; hefty serves of all three. Blackberries, tar, black earth and malt characters slip into mint, violet and bright raspberry. It's the epitome of the mouthfilling style.
